Loren Culp benefitted financially from his campaign when he ran for Washington State Governor in 2020.
Loren Culp paid himself $15,287.50 in mileage reimbursements from his campaign fund, more than any other candidate in Washington state for that year.
The IRS mileage rate of 57.5 cents per mile means Loren Culp allegedly drove 26,586 miles, or about 50 trips from the Northeast tip of the state to the Southwest tip of the state.
Loren Culp also double-dipped into his campaign fund to reimburse himself over $2,000 for fuel expenses. Fuel reimbursements are factored into the IRS mileage rate.
Loren Culp personally enriched himself by using campaign funds to purchase over 700 copies of his book, American Cop.
According to the Washington State Public Disclosure Commission, the campaign spent $6,750 on 732 copies of his books.
After losing the election, Loren Culp paid himself a salary of $33,136 from his campaign fund for “lost wages,” which appears to be the largest sum paid to a candidate from a campaign fund in state history.
